Phonics and Early Reading

We use Pearson Bug Club systematic, synthetic phonic programme and corresponding reading books.

Phonics teaching starts at the beginning of Reception, but children in our nursery begin their phonic journey by developing their listening skills.

Children start to take home reading books that match their phonic knowledge as soon as they are ready. Prior to this they will have books to encourage discussion and to spark their love of reading. As well as their phonetically decodable books, pupils also take home a more challenging book and a reading for pleasure book to share with an adult at home.

Regular communication about reading is faciliated through the use of reading diaires and journals.

Stories are an integral part of our curriculum and all children are read to by an adult in school every day.
